Good vs evil

“And indeed, We wrote in the Zabur* after the [previous] mention that the meek shall inherit the earth.” Quran 21:105

Sidi Al-Arbi A-Darqawi (died 1239 Hijra / 1823 CE ) narrated that a family from the West (Morrocco) wanted their daughter to get married to a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, from the East.
The sharif ** from the East, gathered his three sons and asked:”If someone is evil to you, what would you do ?”
The first son said: “I will treat him in the same way that he treated me.”
The second said: “I would not treat him in the same way, but I would not be good to him either.”
The third said: “I shall treat him with goodness!”
The father exclaimed: “Amazing! He treats you with evil and you treat him with goodness ?”
He said:“Yes, his evil cannot overcome my goodness!”
The father then said:“You are the one to go to the West!”

*Zabur is the scripture revealed to David, peace be upon him.
Some translate it as Psalms.

** Sharif, meaning honourable but it could also mean a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. It was anglicised into ‘sheriff’.
