Come closer, and listen

The poem is old, the voice is modern, but the meanings are timeless.
Ibnu ‘l-Farid, a sufi from eight hundred years ago, pens down a poem out of love, and gives life to Rashah Najih, in the recently destroyed city of Halab (Aleppo).
You may be carrying weapons and plant destruction around you, but you are nothing but a ‘living’ dead.
But those with a living heart, even when buried, give life to those heart in waiting.
So

“let the dead bury the dead”

And join the living, those with hearts that hear

“Only those who hear will respond. But the dead – Allah will resurrect them; then to Him they will be returned.”
Quran 6:36

I have yet to find a non-literal English translation of the poem that would reflect faithfully its soul. Please forgive me.

The love in me

Hear it first:

And now its approximate meanings in English:

In me there is love, ecstasy, and longing with no boundaries
O Messenger of Allah, my heart keeps singing your name
You are a mercy to the world; You came to erase all sorrows
O best messenger, through you we became the best nation
Your love that lives in me pours forth
An overflowing joy in the soul and an eternal peace
Bless him, O Lord, and give us a drink from the palm of his hand
The soul melted, yearned, and cried longing for him

=================================
This poem is by Yasir Salim and it is sang by Ahmed AlKhattab

A timeless song

“I’ve got to stand up for myself
This society don’t care about nobody else
I’ve got to be strong
Even if I know that this feeling is wrong
I’ve got to not care
Even if I know that this world is meant to share
Wait a minute! This is wrong
Even the birds still sing their faithful song
And your beauty lies within you
Look in the mirror baby
Look in the mirror baby
What you gonna do when your friends have Gone away
and deserted you
You’ll have to be strong
24 hours can seem so long
You’re taught to not care
And then not realise this world is meant to share
Wait a minute! It’s wrong
Even the birds still sing their faithful song
And your beauty lies within you
Look in the mirror baby
Look in the mirror baby
We’ve got to stand up for ourselves
Even if a leader so cold wants to glory himself
We’ve got to be strong
Even if our reasons seem wrong
We’ve got to not care
Even if the world that we know may not even be here
Hold it! It’s wrong
Even the birds still sing their faithful song
And your beauty lies within you
Look in the mirror baby
Look in the mirror baby
Look in the mirror baby
Look in the mirror baby
Look in the mirror baby”
