It is unfortunate to cross paths with many people who confidently blame the parents for the wrong doings of their grown up children.
Is it not the case that you are only responsible for your actions and not the actions of others ?
Is it not written ?:
“And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And if a heavily laden soul calls another to carry some of its load, nothing of it will be carried, even if he should be a close relative. You can only warn those who fear their Lord unseen and have established prayer. And whoever purifies himself only purifies himself for the benefit of his soul. And to Allah is the final destination.” Quran 35:18
And is it is not also written in the Old Testament ? :
“The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.” Ezekiel 18:20
Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him, was a good son but his father was not that good.
“And mention in the Book [the story of] Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet.
[Mention] when he said to his father, “O my father, why do you worship that which does not hear and does not see and will not benefit you at all?
O my father, indeed there has come to me of knowledge that which has not come to you, so follow me; I will guide you to an even path.” Quran 19:41-43
And long before him lived Nuh (Noah), peace be upon him.
Nuh was good but his son was not good.
“And it was revealed to Noah that, “No one will believe from your people except those who have already believed, so do not be distressed by what they have been doing.
And construct the ship under Our observation and Our inspiration and do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned.”
And he constructed the ship, and whenever an assembly of the eminent of his people passed by him, they ridiculed him. He said, “If you ridicule us, then we will ridicule you just as you ridicule.
And you are going to know who will get a punishment that will disgrace him on earth and upon whom will descend an enduring punishment in the Hereafter.”
So it was, until when Our command came and the oven overflowed, We said, “Load upon the ship of each creature two mates and your family, except those about whom the word has preceded, and include whoever has believed.” But none had believed with him, except a few.
And [Noah] said, “Embark therein; in the name of Allah is its course and its anchorage. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful.”
And it sailed with them through waves like mountains, and Noah called to his son who was apart from them, “O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers.”
But he said, “I will take refuge on a mountain to protect me from the water.” [Noah] said, “There is no protector today from the decree of Allah, except for whom He gives mercy.” And the waves came between them, and he was among the drowned.
And it was said, “O earth, swallow your water, and O sky, withhold your rain.” And the water subsided, and the matter was accomplished, and the ship came to rest on the mountain of Judiyy. And it was said, “Away with the wrongdoing people.”
And Noah called to his Lord and said, “My Lord, indeed my son is of my family; and indeed, Your promise is true; and You are the most just of judges!”
He said, “O Noah, indeed he is not of your family; indeed, he is one whose work was other than righteous, so ask Me not for that about which you have no knowledge. Indeed, I advise you, lest you be among the ignorant.” Quran 11: 36-46
The human being is definitely a complex creature.
What makes one choose one path over another is not always clear.
However, once a child reaches the age of puberty coupled with reason then they are fully responsible for their actions.
