Enter Ali bin Abi Talib.
“Hate no one, no matter how much they’ve wronged you.
Live humbly, no matter how wealthy you become.
Think positively, no matter how hard life is.
Give much, even if you’ve been given little.
Keep in touch with the ones who have forgotten you, and forgive who has wronged you, and do not stop praying for the best for those you love.”
Ali bin Abi Talib
Ali son of Abu Talib [born 23 before Hijra / 599 CE in Mecca and died 40 Hijra / 661 CE in Kufa], was a strictly honourable and honest man at all times. A model of uprightness for all times.
The tribe of Quraysh saw itself above all other tribes.
It is another version of the “Chosen people”.
Ali bin Abi Talib and Ummar Ibn Khattab were both from Quraysh.
However, they belonged to that minority who followed the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
Ali bin Abi Talib distributed the state’s wealth equality between the people.
He did not make any distinction between them.
He says: “Fairness is a sign of nobleness.”
At the end, even his own brother ِِAqeel ibn Abi Talib run away from him to his arch-enemy Muawiyah.
Aqeel saw in practice that Ali bin Abi Talib equated him to the rest of the people.
Hence, he left for the company of Muawiyah and said: “My brother [Ali bin Abi Talib] is better for my religion and you [Muawiyah] are better for my livelihood. I have chosen my livelihood and I ask Allah, exalted, to give me a good ending.”
You cannot be that just and expect everyone to like you.
If Ali bin Abi Talib was among us today, the Shias would throw him under the bus and the Sunnis would drive over him.
He was asked: “Why don’t you do like Muawiyah does in his wars ?”
He replied: “Are you asking me to seek victory by tyranny ?”
After he gave people a lesson in true justice, he had to give way for people to taste true injustice.
He was assassinated.
He says: “True friends are one soul in many bodily forms.”
“Your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it.
Your sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it.
You presume you are a small entity,
But within you is enfolded the entire universe.
You are indeed the evident book,
By whose alphabet the hidden becomes the manifest.
Therefore, you have no need to look beyond yourself,
What you seek is within you, if only you reflect.”
